What's new in ActiveWorlds Version 6.0

Since the last issue of the YG, AW has launched Version 6.0 of the program. According to the AW Wiki, the main features of this new version are ocean rendering, reflections and world light. For those building in Yellow, you will note that the world's water has undergone a considerable restructure and hence its look. AW Staff are also adjusting the world light in Yellow, which will continue for a while. For those technically minded, be sure to check out the details on the AW Wiki site.

The latest build, 1308, should have fixed issues using the matfx textures. If you are having problems with this, or other areas in the new version, be sure to contact AW Support.

For those with their own worlds, it is worth checking out these new features and what you can do with them.

Introducing the Yellow Builders Guild

After much discussion and thought, the YG is pleased to announce the inauguration of the Yellow Builders Guild (YBG). The Yellow Gazette staff believe that there are a number of outstanding builders in Active Worlds that have made Yellow their main world for their builds. Indeed, the YG has featured a number of these talented citizens in previous issues of the YG since its inception. One of the features the YBG will undertake is offering an award (and a non-award) which can be read about below.

For your Information

Due to pressures of time, the Garden/Critter page and the Newbies page will not be appearing in this issue. We intend to offer the Newbies page every other issue, and the Garden page will have a revised format. For the same reason, we're not sure when the next issue of the YG will appear, except to say that it will!

This issue features Iao Moonshadow's Nautilus Center in Steam City as the Build of the Month. Be sure to visit! Joe and his apprentice Petal have also concocted some excellent recipes for you to try. The Build Tips page looks further at what you can do with wall pieces, this time using pictures on a 2D wall object.

Steam City is coming along very nicely, with lots of very creative people doing some pretty spectacular stuff. Definitely worth a visit! Just go to Yellow 1838.19S 1690.004E 0.10a 87.4. One last thing: the YG staff is looking at developing an Autumn Festival -- more later. But keep it in mind.

Fuzzy pic

Fuzzy's story won't be featuring this issue, as he is dealing with personal issues at the moment and has been given an extended leave of absence. He will be back soon.

Aunt Trudy Hears...

Aunt Trudy provides news and, well, gossip from Yellow citizens. If you have something you want in the Gazette, just contact yellowgazette@cox.net

Dear readers

Aunt Trudy has news for you...

Seems like there is a new couturier at work in Yellow; the attire of some of our leading ladies has caught eyes of many observers. Will she reveal herself? Trudy will tell as soon as she finds out!

I've heard that Chloe and the cubs are doing well; Rufus has lost considerable weight looking after his new family and remains in a mild state of shock...

A number of Yellow citizens appear to have been involved in the Great AW Photo Shoot recently; we're looking forward to seeing the pics. This was another of Bach Zhaa's excellent initiatives, so thanks Bach.

*Just to note that it's summer for the folks in the northern hemisphere; it's winter for those in the south.

See you soon sweeties

Golden Bear Award

Golden Bear Award

One of the features the YBG will offer is the Golden Bear Award to any citizen who has organized an event or constructed an innovative and creative build. This award is about fun and saying well done to those who take the time to create wonders for all to enjoy. The recipients of the Golden Bear will be featured in the Yellow Gazette, and their picture will be permanently displayed in the Steam City’s teleport Hall of Fame. Here is a shot of the Golden Bear (Now, wouldn't that look good on your mantelpiece?) However, if you go for a Golden Bear, be careful that you don't end up with the Plastic Salmon. These may be handed out for well - let's just say less than a stellar effort. No worries though, it is all done in fun.

Watch for more more details on the Yellow Builders Guild next issue!

To the top.
