The Systems Men

To John Ralston Saul
(Thank you for Voltaire's Bastards)

Look out! Here come the systems men
Suited minds of grey
With files filled with plans and schemes
To exorcise our human dreams
And creativity.

Look out! Here come the systems men
To manage and obey
The orders of the faceless Boards
(The Corporation's Overlords) -
A Deadly entity.

Look out! Here come the systems men
Committees in their pay
Who dictate tasks, and words, and rules
Imposing reasoned managed tools
Which stop ability.

Look out! Here come the systems men
To take control. To stay
The surge of lusty life and joy
As ordered blandness they employ
Upon humanity.

Look out! Here come the systems men
Knowing that today
They hold the world in total thrall
The Bureaucrats now rule us all -
Condemned disparity.

Look out! Here come the systems men
Heedless of the play
Of men and women's hopes and fears
Unmanaged. Yet surviving years
Of blissful anarchy.

Look out! Here come the systems men
